How to Maintain your Computer

Being a computer technician pays good money and have been for a very long time. Why? Well, mainly because a lot of new computer owners do not learn to use and maintain the new computer. Before buying my first computer back in 1998, I took an 8 hour class on the basics of a Windows 1995-based computer systems. . Even with the class, within the first few months, I had crashed computer 3 times. This gives you somewhat of an idea of what we have here today. . Many people now have computers because the friends have one, or simply enter the chat room, or adult sites. . point being. . They know how to use a computer, let alone maintain one.

To save you a lot of money and unneedless trips to the computer shop for repairs, there are a number of very simple steps you can take to keep your new computer quickly and efficiently. Personally, I have Windows xp home edition running on my computer. I think it is the best system out there at the moment. The choice is of course if your operating system you install on your machine. When you get your new computer at home and you configure an Internet connection, the first thing I recommend that you make to get to the Windows Update site. The site will automatically update your operating system with new files to prevent people on other computers from accessing your data. The next step is to install an anti-virus and spyware on your computer.

If you buy a new computer from a large collection, it is usually included in the purchase but not always. Make sure to ask about this when you buy your computer. Both of these programs, anti-virus and anti-spyware is a must in today’s digital age. . You can get useful information from Google (http://www. Google. Com). Just enter the anti-virus in the search box .. You may choice for many applications .. The same for anti-spyware.

By the time you will visit many sites. . Most of these sites have what are called “cookies”. These are small packages of embedded data (files), that they visited sites leave on your computer to track your surfing habits. After a while, these files must be cleared, removed from the computer.

Other files that need to be cleaned at least once a week, is your temporary Internet files and your history files. Failure to do this will really slow down your computer to a crawl and eventually cause a system crash, which means that you reinstall your operating system.

When you open Internet Explorer, top left, you will see options. . Look for the Tools option. Left click on “Tools” and then left on “Internet Options”. From there should be straight forward for you. When you delete Temporary Internet Files and History, click “OK” I do this at least once a day, really keeps my computer running fast.

Now I have and share with you some things you can do about what is inside of your computer “case” or computer “hardware”. No matter how clean the surroundings where you have your computer positioned over time a lot of dust and particles collected on the inside. . your motherboard, the power, on your CPU, all your cards’ video, audio, ect. ” I clean the inside of my computer every 3 months and I recommend all new users do too.

Here’s how: First, before you do anything, make sure the computer is unplugged from the wall outlet and is fully turned off! Next is to get a screwdriver for the small round screws you need to undo to get inside your case. When both sides of the case is removed you will need a can of compressed air. . You can buy from any computer on standby for 5 dollars. You then spray all the areas inside the case. . You will see dust and dirt flyng away from the places you sprayed. To do this four times a year (every 3 months) is a great way to save lots of money and keep your computer running like a brand new.

I hope you all have enjoyed my computer tips.

Sincerely, William
